Anodyne Therapy
The Word "Anodyne" Means "Without Pain". Anodyne® Therapy Systems are
infrared light therapy devices, that for the past 15 years, have been
the choice of over 1/2 a million people looking for a non-invasive, drug
free way to live with less pain , stiffness or muscle spasm; or increase
their local circulation.
The infrared light emitted from this system stimulates a temporary
increase in local blood circulation, (delivering oxygen and nutrients
where they are needed) and also provides temporary relief of pain,
stiffness and muscle spasm.
How Anodyne Therapy Works
The patented treatment method of Anodyne® Therapy Systems
causes blood vessels (arteries and veins) to temporarily dilate – thus
increasing local circulation, and reducing pain, stiffness and muscle
spasm.
Pain can have many underlying causes or etiologies – which is why it is
sometimes very hard to treat. Common causes of pain are:
• Lack of blood flow/ poor circulation (ischemia)
• Nerve impingement due to inflammation or soft tissue swelling
• Mechanical issues due to trauma, injury, or degeneration
Your blood delivers necessary substances – such as oxygen and nutrients
– to the cells of your body; and also transports waste products away
from those same cells. Injuries and trauma cause inflammation, making it
difficult for blood to reach an injured site in the body.
Additionally, some conditions such as diabetes, vascular disease (PVD
and PAD), hypertension, and atherosclerosis contribute to blood vessel
narrowing - causing pain.
For patients with the aforementioned conditions, vessel constriction
often presents first in areas of the body with the smallest blood
vessels such as arms, hands, feet and legs – and can escalate to areas
such as the digestive track, kidneys – and heart.
By increasing local circulation, Anodyne® treatments address
the underlying cause of many types of pain - poor circulation. Pain
medications may only further mask symptoms, and many people can not
tolerate their side-effects.
Your Experience with Anodyne Therapy
Typically, patients will receive treatments with an Anodyne" Therapy
System along with a therapy plan of care. It is important not to
discontinue your treatment plan until you are discharged or have spoken
with your therapist. There are no known side effects' of Anodyne"
Therapy, however, please be aware of the following points:
• Patients normally feel a soothing warmth.
• Your skin in the treatment area may be slightly pink after treatment.
This is a sign of increased circulation and should disappear within a
few hours.
• You may feel some tingling or minor pain at first. Again, this is a
sign of increased circulation, and is actually a positive sign that the
treatment is working for you.
• If you have diabetes, monitor your blood sugars regularly, as you are
likely beginning a new exercise program.
